Google has released patches addressing 25 documented security vulnerabilities in the Android operating system, including a critical-severity flaw in the Framework component.
The most severe of these, tracked as CVE-2024-31320, impacts Android versions 12 and 12L and allows attackers to escalate privileges on vulnerable devices without requiring additional execution privileges.
The critical security defect was included in the 2024-07-01 security patch level, which also resolves seven other high-severity issues:
- Three escalation of privilege vulnerabilities in the Framework
- Three escalation of privilege vulnerabilities in the System
- One information disclosure flaw in the System
Additionally, the second part of Android’s July 2024 security update, the 2024-07-05 security patch level, addresses 17 vulnerabilities across various components, including Kernel, Arm, Imagination Technologies, MediaTek, and Qualcomm, including a fix to the critical CVE-2024-21461.
No new patches were released for Android Automotive this month, but the update contains all the fixes included in the 2024-07-05 security patch level.
