Kerber, Eck & Braeckel LLP (KEB) is reporting a data breach after discovering unauthorized access to sensitive client information. KEB is a certified public accounting and management consulting firm headquartered in Girardeau, Missouri, serving individuals and businesses with various services, including tax preparation and employee benefits.
The breach was first detected on February 7, 2024, at KEB’s Marion, Illinois branch office and was caused by a security incident where an unauthorized party accessed KEB’s network between January 27 and February 7, 2023. The investigation confirmed that confidential information was compromised during this period. The exposed data includes:
- Names,
- Addresses,
- Dates of birth,
- Social Security numbers,
- Financial account information,
- Medical information,
- Health insurance information,
- Billing and claims information.
The nature of the attack and the number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
KEB completed its review of the affected files on June 6, 2024, and began notifying impacted individuals on August 12, 2024, with detailed breach notification letters.
