Ascension Seton investigating data breach

Ascension Seton, based in Austin, Texas, is conducting an investigation into a data breach that occurred in March. The security event involving its website that was managed by a third party vendor, Vertex. Per the available information - mentioning encryption, it seems that the attack is a ransomware.

Due to the nature of the incident and the encryption, Ascension Seton does not have details about affected information. However, demographic information such as name, address, email address, phone number, insurance information, Social Security number (or tax identification number), or other clinical information would have been affected if this information was provided by people on the websites, Seton.net and DellChildrens.net.

Update - Ascension Providence Hospital acknowledged in June the data breach affecting them, through the information stored on the hospital’s “legacy website,” Providence.net.

They are alerting individuals affected by the incident and providing complimentary credit and identity theft protection services. Assencion beleives that that no information was believed to be removed or misused, and steps have been taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
