The Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE) reports a data breach that affected 426,280 individuals, including members, employees, and their dependents.
ATPE detected "suspicious activities" on its network in February and swiftly disconnected all access to prevent further damage. The subsequent investigation concluded on March 20. This breach exposed a variety of sensitive information:
For all affected individuals:
- Social Security numbers
- Dates of birth
- Addresses
For ATPE employees specifically:
- Passport numbers
- Driver’s license numbers
- Financial information
- Medical records
Additional exposed data includes:
- Tax Identification Numbers for members who joined before May 15, 2021
- Financial information for members who received payments from ATPE
No details are disclosed about the nature of the attack.
To mitigate the impact, ATPE is offering 12 months of identity protection services to the victims.
