AutoZone reports MOVEit related data breach, exposing almost 185k customers

AutoZone, a leading automotive parts retailer in the U.S., has issued a warning to approximately 185,000 customers about a data breach stemming from the Clop ransomware gang's exploitation of a MOVEit file transfer vulnerability earlier this year.
The attack took place on May 28, 2023 and has exposed personal information of customers, including
- full names
- social security numbers,
Despite realizing the breach in August and Clop claiming responsibility by publishing 1.1GB of data in July, AutoZone only identified the specific data affected in recent months.
AutoZone has offered identity theft protection services to affected parties and advises vigilance for the next 24 months.
