Beng Kuang Marine engineering firm reports ransomware incident at third party vendor

Beng Kuang Marine, a Singabpre infrastructure engineering and corrosion prevention services company, reports that's a ransomware attack on one of its external IT service providers affected certain data stored on the provider’s servers.

The IT service provider detected the security breach and responded by disabling network connections and initiating an investigation with the help of external cybersecurity experts. Preliminary findings indicate that while the servers were breached, but there is currently no evidence of a data leak or unauthorized access.

Beng Kuang Marine reports that the breach compromised backend working files.

The impact of the incident on Beng Kuang Marine’s operations has been minimal, thanks to the group’s reliance on backup systems and its strategy of partnering with multiple IT vendors to reduce risks. The company assured stakeholders that further updates will be provided if any significant developments occur.

The service provider has engaged cybersecurity experts and reported the incident to relevant authorities including the Personal Data Protection Commission, the Cyber Security Agency Singapore, and the Singapore Police Force.
