Buckingham County Public Schools, Virginia, notified the parents of 86 students after discovering a compromise of one of the district's business email accounts.
The details of the attack that caused the email compromise was not disclosed.
The compromised email account contained various pieces of information related to the student, including:
- names of the students,
- as well as addresses
- limited amount of health or medical diagnostic and treatment data.
- notifications from parents, students, and teachers regarding absences for doctor's appointments or illnesses
Specifically, the email account contained details such as immunization records, which are crucial for maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.
ABuckingham County Public Schools offered one year of identity theft protection services through Experian.
The school was unable to determine whether any information was actually removed from the compromised email account during the security breach.
