The Chambersburg Area School District in Pennsylvania recently fell victim to a ransomware attack, resulting in the closure of schools for several days and a cautionary notice to students and staff against logging into computers.

The district has not disclosed whether a ransom was paid or the extent of the compromised information.

In an official statement, the district confirmed the ransomware event and mentioned ongoing efforts by third-party forensic specialists to investigate the incident and its impact, alongside attempts to restore secure functionality to their systems.

The classes and all work at the district resumed on friday of last week. Unfortunately, no details are available about the attack, exposed data or impacted individuals.

Update - on 20th October 2023 the district reports that employees from 2008 to 2023 and a very small group of students are  most likely affected.
