Citizens Bank, the 16th-largest bank in the United States by total assets, is reporting a data breach.
The breach is attributed to "insider wrongdoing" that occurred on October 23rd, 2023, has impacted 8,358 customers. The compromised information includes:
- Citizens account numbers,
- Social Security numbers,
- dates of birth,
- various identification details.
Citizens Bank is offering affected customers a complimentary two-year membership to TransUnion Interactive's myTrueIdentity credit monitoring service.
This incident follows a previous breach that Citizens Bank disclosed in October 2024, which affected approximately 100 customers.
The bank has advised customers to remain careful over the next 12 to 24 months by carefully reviewing their account statements and activities, recommending immediate reporting of any suspicious activity.
