The municipality of Nuenen in Noord-Brabant reports a data breach that inadvertently exposed the personal information of more than 1,000 residents who had filed objections to the establishment of a temporary asylum seekers center in the area.
The cause of this incident was human error during the document preparation and distribution process for the objections committee hearing. According to local broadcaster Omroep Brabant, the address information was sent to multiple recipients as part of the standard administrative process for handling citizen objections.
Nuenen officials tnotified the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) and contacted all recipients of the document and formally requested that they delete the files and refrain from sharing them further. Nuenen has implemented stricter procedures for sending documents.
