Edelman Financial Engines (EFE), an investment advisory firm reports a data breach after an incident on January 7, 2026.
EFE confirmed that the attackers stole personal data and financial planning records but claims the incident did not affect the core trading systems. The company claims it detected the activity quickly and blocked the unauthorized access on the same day.
The compromised data includes:
- Social Security numbers
- Full names
- Dates of birth
- Home addresses
- Phone numbers and email addresses
- Financial planning information
The number of affected individuals is 5,083. The nature of the attack is not disclosed.
Edelman Financial Engines notified law enforcement and state regulators. The firm is offering affected clients 24 months of free identity monitoring and credit protection services that include dark web monitoring, Social Security number scans, and $1 million in identity fraud loss reimbursement.
