The Tartu, Estonia based genetic testing company Asper Biogene experienced a significant data breach where personal and health data of about 10,000 individuals were illegally downloaded. Asper Biogene specializes in diagnosing hereditary diseases. They alerted authorities on November 11 upon discovering unauthorized access to its database, leading to the downloading of roughly 100,000 files.

This incident, reported by the State Prosecutor's Office, has led to a criminal investigation and a supervisory procedure by the Data Protection Inspectorate.

The breach included sensitive information like genetic testing results. The attack was deliberate and sophisticated, with the perpetrators making a financial demand against Asper Biogene.
