Crown Equipment, one of the world's leading forklift manufacturers, has been forced to shut down its systems to investigate a cyberattack. The attack was detected on 8th of June and significantly disrupting its manufacturing operations.
All IT systems were shut down to investigate and mitigate the attack, preventing employees from clocking in hours, accessing service manuals, and delivering machinery in some cases.
The attack was attributed to an "international cybercriminal organization." It is believed to have occurred after an employee fell victim to a social engineering attack, allowing a threat actor to install remote access software on their computer.
Initially, employees were instructed not to accept multi-factor authentication (MFA) requests and to be vigilant about phishing emails. There were also frustrations regarding a lack of transparency from the company.
No details are dislcosed about any compromised data or number of impacted inviduals.
Employees were advised to file for unemployment or use their paid time off (PTO) and vacation days. However, this policy was later amended to ensure that employees would receive their regular pay as an advance, with the opportunity to make up for the lost hours.
