Fowler Elementary School District hit by cyberattack, data breach

The Fowler Elementary School District in Phoenix, Arizona has fallen victim to a cyberattack claimed by the Interlock ransomware group. The gang claimed the attack on theri dark web site on May 3, 2025. 

Interlock claims to have allegedly exfiltrated approximately 400 gigabytes of data containing highly confidential information related to students, employees, and administrative personnel.

As evidence of their claims, Interlock reportedly leaked a file tree with 60,000 lines and other proof of compromise. The supposed exposed data includes:

  • Full names of students and staff
  • Dates of birth
  • Residential addresses
  • Social Security Numbers (SSNs)
  • Medical records
  • Insurance information
  • Payroll data
  • Administrative documents
  • Student ID numbers
  • Guardian names

The number of affected individuals has not been disclosed.

The Fowler Elementary School District has not yet publicly acknowledged the attack, with no announcements appearing on its website or Facebook page. The district's Facebook page was last updated on April 29 with an unrelated post about the approaching end of the school year.
