Guardian Childcare Victoria, the largest childcare provider in the state of Victoria, has reported a cyber attack that resulted in the exfiltration of customer data.

Guardian reports that a threat actor had breached its systems and stolen scanned images of ID documents provided by families. The email to affected individuals stated, "Following an extensive investigation of the incident, we have become aware that a scanned image of the ID document you provided at the time of your visit may have been compromised by the attacker."

The number of affected individuals and the nature of the attack are not disclosed.

The organization confirmed that no other data was compromised during the attack. Guardian Childcare has notified relevant authorities and is enhancing its security measures to prevent future breaches. They advised those affected to request replacement identification documents and remain vigilant against potential scams.

Despite no current evidence of the stolen data being used for malicious purposes, the organization warned that ID documents are critical for verification and could be exploited by scammers and fraudsters.
