Hackers claim breach and demand ransom of India-based NoBroker real estate marketplace

NoBroker, an India-based real estate marketplace, has reportedly experienced a data breach accompanied by a ransom demand of $50,000 U.S..  NoBroker, founded in 2014, connects property owners and tenants directly.

The breach was disclosed by Kill Security, a hacking group, according to HackManac on Twitter, which tracks verified cyberattacks.

The following types of personally identifiable information (PII) were allegedly compromised:

  • Names
  • Addresses
  • Permanent account numbers (PAN)
  • Financial data related to stamp duty and registration fees
  • Legal agreements for non-residential property usage
  • Biometric data

NoBroker has not yet confirmed the breach. The nature of the attack and the number of affected individuals is not disclosed

If verified, the leak poses a significant risk of identity theft and other cybercrimes. The breach could also facilitate "digital arrests", where fraudsters impersonate law enforcement officials to extort money online.
