Home security/alarm company ADT reports data breach

Learn More

Home security and alarm monitoring company ADT Inc. has reported a data breach that resulted in the unauthorized access of customer information.

After discovering the breach, ADT shut down the unauthorized access and launched an investigation in collaboration with third-party cybersecurity experts. The investigation confirms that hackers accessed the databases containing customer order information, including:

  • Physical addresses
  • Email addresses
  • Phone numbers

The company claims that there is no evidence to suggest that their home security systems, payment card data, or banking information were compromised during the attack.

ADT has not disclosed the exact number of affected customers and the nature of the attack. It emphasized that only a small percentage of its overall subscriber base, which totals approximately six million as of June 2024, was impacted.

The breach report comes after a user on a cybercrime forum claimed to have over 30,000 ADT customer records for sale, although the connection between this claim and the breach has not been confirmed.

ADT has notified the affected customers.
