Intoxalock, a provider of ignition interlock devices, reportс a significant cyberattack on March 14, 2026.

The incident has disrupted services for thousands of drivers across 46 states. This incident  affected the infrastructure required for vehicle breathalyzer calibrations, effectively stranding users who require a clean breathalyzer result to start their engines.

The company confirmed the event, noting that systems were taken offline to contain the threat.

The threat actors used Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) to flood the company's servers and prevent them from functioning correctly. Drivers reported being locked out of their vehicles entirely once the calibration deadline passed without server connectivity.

The company claims that personal user data remains secure. The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.

In response to the outage, Intoxalock is working with state monitoring authorities to minimize the legal impact on drivers under court orders. The company announced it will waive all fees directly resulting from the attack and is providing a 10-day service extension to help users bypass lockouts. Service centers have been authorized to issue these extensions while IT teams work to restore the backend infrastructure. Despite these measures, many users have had to tow their vehicles to service stations at their own expense.
