A medical data breach affecting patients in Jackson County, Florida, has been reported, caused by the billing service provider for Jackson County Fire Rescue.
The billing provider, EMS Management and Consultants Inc. (EMS|MC), confirmed its use of Progress Software Corp.'s MOVEit Transfer tool, which was attacked by the "cl0p" digital extortionist group on May 31.
After swiftly patching the tool and launching an investigation, EMS|MC confirmed that patient information was compromised by an unknown actor who accessed the MOVEit Transfer server.
Potentially affected patient data include
- names,
- dates of transport,
- social security numbers,
- dates of birth,
- encounter/transport numbers,
- billing codes,
- other ambulance transport-related details.
The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
While it's uncertain whether accessed information was misused, affected individuals are being notified and provided steps to safeguard their data. EMS|MC is sending notice letters to impacted individuals.
