The patients of Dr. Jaime S. Schwartz, a plastic surgeon with offices in Beverly Hills and Dubai are impacted by a ransomware attack claimed by a group known as Hunters International. The hacker group name is new, but may be a re-branding of a previous group. The group mentioned that the patients of Dr. Schwartz include prominent individuals and that Dr. Schwartz charges a substantial fee for initial appointments.
The threat actorsposted several photos allegedly obtained from the physician's patients on the dark web, including one showing a nude patient with their face visible. The listing by Hunters International claimed that they had acquired 1.1 TB of data consisting of 248,245 files, indicating that while they did not encrypt Dr. Schwartz's practice, they did manage to exfiltrate data.
Dr. Schwartz's office has not reported a data breach, nor have provided any details to their patients or the public.
Plastic surgery offices have been attractive targets for cyberattacks in 2023, with threat actors becoming more aggressive in exposing sensitive patient information and attempting to extort patients directly.
