The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) is reporting a data breach potentially compromising personal information of some clients. The incident occurred on March 20, 2024, when a LACDMH employee clicked on a phishing email, leading to the compromise of their account, which contained confidential client and patient data.
Upon discovering the breach, LACDMH engaged a nationally recognized forensic firm to investigate the extent of the compromise. The investigation revealed that the compromised emails or attachments contained the following types of personal information:
- Names
- Date of birth
- Address
- Telephone number
- Social Security number
- Medical record number
The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
Although it remains unclear if any information was accessed, the department proactively notified potentially affected individuals via mail.
