MediaWorks, a New Zealand media company, is investigating an alleged cyber security breach impacting over 2.4 million individuals.
The company became aware of the cyber security incident claims on Friday 15th of March 2024, prompting an immediate investigation with the assistance of external cyber security experts. In response to the breach allegations, MediaWorks has taken precautionary measures by transferring all current competition entries to a newly secured computer database.
The alleged hacker claims to have stolen personal data from approximately 2.461 million New Zealand citizens. This data includes:
- details of individuals' voting preferences on TV shows
- names,
- home addresses,
- mobile and home phone numbers,
- email addresses,
- dates of birth,
- postal codes,
- genders,
- user IDs. Additionally
The data set is spanning several years, from 2017 to 2020.
