Attackers associated with the Medusa hacking group claim to have executed a ransomware attack against Venezuelan mobile carrier Digitel. The attackers demand a ransom of $5 million in Bitcoin, equivalent to approximately 100 BTC at the time of the issuing of the ransom demand.
The attack was supposedly executed on February 2nd. On February 12th, the group proceeded to leak "sensitive data" belonging to millions of Digitel's customers. This leaked information encompassed a wide range of data types, including:
- Employee lists
- Identification documents
- Financial documents
- Reports, invoices, and contracts
- Subscriber agreements
- Personal data of citizens
The leaked data could potentially affect over five million Digitel users. Digitel customers are advised to exercise caution by changing their passwords and securing their email accounts and other online platforms.
