Scotch College Melbourne, one of Australia's prestigious independent boys' schools, has been hit by a cyberattack that potentially exposed sensitive data belonging to current families and graduates.
The incident occured over the weekend of 9th-10th of August 2025, when an unknown third party gained unauthorized access to the school's IT systems. The school shut down all servers and all user accounts were disabled as a precautionary measure to prevent further unauthorized access. The school postponed all non-essential online events to minimize additional exposure risks during the investigation period.
The nature of the attack, exposed data and number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
Principal Dr Scott Marsh promptly informed the school community, including current families and Old Scotch Collegians, through a written notification on Tuesday 12th of August. In his communication, Dr Marsh acknowledged the serious nature of the incident and urged all recipients to exercise heightened vigilance in their digital interactions.
