Learn More
Montreal-based video game developer Red Barrels, known for its psychological horror games Outlast and Outlast 2, has been hit by a ransomware attack and a data breach caused by the Nitrogen Ransomware Group.
The cyberattack compromised approximately 1.8 terabytes of sensitive data, including game source codes, game builds, human resource documents, and company credit card information.
While the breach has not directly affected player data, the company’s development work has been severely disrupted, delaying upcoming projects like The Outlast Trials.
Red Barrels has engaged external cybersecurity experts to investigate and secure their systems. As of now, Red Barrels has not disclosed whether they intend to meet the ransom gang’s demands.
