NTT Docomo, Japan's largest mobile carrier, experienced a significant service disruption on Thursday, 2nd of January 2025 due to a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.
The attack affected several key services including the company's:
- news website,
- video streaming platform,
- mobile payment system,
- webmail services,
- a golf enthusiasts' website.
The disruption lasted from early Thursday morning until late afternoon, with most services being restored by evening, though some content updates continued to face delays.
No impact to data is reported so far. This incident marks the second major cyberattack against NTT Docomo in recent times, following a ransomware attack in 2023 claimed by the Ransomed.vc gang.
