Octapharma Plasma is currently facing a significant IT disruption feared to be caused by a ransomware attack, leading to the closure of over 150 blood plasma donation centers. Octapharma Plasma, Inc., is  subsidiary of the global healthcare company Octapharma Group, a significant player in the plasma donation industry. It's collecting and processing human blood plasma to manufacture life-saving therapies.

The incident was initially reported as "network issues" on the company's website. However, details provided by an insider suggest that the medical firm has been infected with the BlackSuit ransomware as of Monday.

According to the source, more than 75% of the plasma required by Octapharma’s European operations is sourced from the U.S., indicating that prolonged disruptions could necessitate the closure of European factories.

No details are available about the attack or impacted systems and data.

The BlackSuit ransomware, believed to be involved in the Octapharma Plasma incident, is a newer strain that shares code with the Royal ransomware and may be a rebrand of this group.
