Suffolk-based Orwell Housing Association is reporting a data breach following an incident that exposed sensitive payroll information of 853 current and former employees. The breach occurred due to human error when confidential payroll data was inadvertently sent to an unauthorized recipient, highlighting the ongoing risks of data mishandling in the workplace.
The breach occurred on Tuesday, August 26 2025, and the company was made aware the following day, when it also reported the case to the ICO.
The compromised information includes:
- Names
- Addresses
- Bank account details
- National Insurance numbers
- All other details contained within the payslip
A spokesperson for Orwell Housing Association said: "All colleagues have been contacted directly with details of the breach, including guidance on how to access support if needed. We want to reassure our customers that the incident did not include any customer data".
The organization has emphasized that no customer or tenant data was involved in this breach. A full investigation is underway to understand how the incident occurred.
