Philippine National Police shuts down systems after cyber attack

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has temporarily shut down all its data systems following a reported "breach attempt" on its Firearms and Explosives Office’s (FEO) data system. The attack apparently compromised stored personal data. PNP Spokesperson confirmed the attack attempt and clarified that the organization’s Information Technology Services (ITMS) is still validating the extent of the threat.
The PNP said: "All PNP systems, particularly frontline services like the FEO, have been shut down. As of now ITMS personnel informs that the validation, assessment, and investigation by our Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) are ongoing."
The ITMS has requested at least a week to investigate the threat before restoring the PNP’s online services. Fajardo expressed hope that within this timeframe, additional enhanced security measures could be implemented to protect the systems.
PNP revealed that the individual responsible for the threat to the FEO data system is the same person who attempted to breach the PNP’s logistics, data, information, and management system the previous week. This fact opens more questions than it answers - what accounts and secrets were breached, why systems weren't locked down earlier etc...
No details of the attack are disclosed or any breached information.
