Philips Respironics, a subsidiary of Philips manufacturing sleep therapy and ventilatory devices is reporting a data breach after a discovery that an unauthorized party had gained access to sensitive information entrusted to the company.
The incident was a result of a security vulnerability in the MOVEit Transfer software. This vulnerability allowed an unauthorized third party to access personal information on May 31, 2023. The information accessed include:
- names,
- contact details,
- dates of birth,
- medical information related to therapy,
- health insurance details,
Philips Respironics reports that the breach did not expose Social Security numbers or credit card information. The breach is impacting 457,152 individuals.
Philips Respironics has begun notifying and assisting customers in responding to the incident.
