A ransomware attack on Toppan Next Tech (TNT), a printing vendor for DBS Bank and Bank of China's Singapore branch, has compromised the personal information of approximately 11,200 customers.

Toppan Next Tech, which provides printing services for customer statements and letters for both banks, was hit by what the company described as "a random ransomware attack to its business operations" at its Joo Koon Circle site. DBS Bank was informed of the attack on April 5 at 10:21 PM local time, and halted all printing jobs with the vendor as a precautionary measure.

The data breach has affected approximately 8,200 DBS customers and 3,000 Bank of China customers in Singapore. The majority of the compromised DBS accounts belong to the bank's brokerage arm, DBS Vickers, with the remainder primarily consisting of Cashline loan accounts. The exposed data relates to statements and letters sent to individual customers between December 2024 and February 2025 and includes:

  • First and last names
  • Postal addresses
  • Details relating to equities held under DBS Vickers
  • Cashline loan account details
  • Loan account numbers (in some cases for Bank of China customers)

Both financial institutions have stressed that their internal systems were not compromised by the ransomware attack, and that customers' deposits and monies "remain safe." DBS has reported no evidence of unauthorized transactions resulting from the incident thus far. Both banks have placed the relevant accounts under enhanced monitoring and are contacting affected customers as a priority.

The Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) is assisting TNT with its investigations and advising on containment measures, while the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is closely engaging with the affected banks on their risk mitigation strategies.

The company has reportedly "immediately cut off the entry point from which the attacker entered the network" and is closely monitoring the situation. Toppan managing director Chia Yan Heng apologized for the incident, stating: "We deeply regret that this incident has occurred and apologise sincerely for any disruption or concern caused to our clients."
