Proliance Surgeons reports data breach, exposes patient data

On November 21, 2023, Proliance Surgeons, a Seattle-based healthcare practice reported a data breach that occurred in February 2023. This breach, is a result of a cyberattack that allowed unauthorized access to the company's networ and exposed customer data.
The cyberattack led to network encryption which indicates a ransomware attack. The investigation with third-party cybersecurity experts comfirmed unauthorized access to personal information.
The exposed data includes:
- names,
- birthdates,
- Social Security numbers,
- medical and health insurance information,
- contact details,
- financial account numbers,
- identification details,
- login credentials.
Proliance Surgeons did not disclose the number of affected individuals.
Update - Proliance Surgeons notified HHS that 437,392 patients were affected by a breach. A notice on their they were impacted by a ransomware attack in which files and systems were encrypted and some data was exfiltrated.
Proliance Surgeons completed its investigation and began distributing notification letters to those affected, advising them about the breach. Individuals who received these notifications are encouraged to understand the risks and consider consulting a data breach attorney to explore legal options and strategies to prevent identity theft or fraud.
