The drugstore chain Rite Aid, has reported a data breach that occurred on May 27th, which may have compromised the personal information of its customers.

The breach involved an unknown party gaining unauthorized access to sensitive data, including

  • customers' names,
  • birth dates,
  • addresses,
  • prescription information.

Additionally, in some cases, insurance details such as plan names and cardholder IDs were also accessed. Rite Aid assured that no Social Security numbers or credit card information was compromised in the incident.

As a response to the breach, Rite Aid is taking measures to notify potentially affected customers by sending out letters.

Unfortunately no details are available as to the nature of the attack or the number of affected individuals.

Update - on 25th of July Rite Aid reported that 24,400 customers were exposed in the attack.
