Slovenia's primary electricity provider, Holding Slovenske Elektrarne (HSE), was targeted in a ransomware cyberattack that encrypted its files, although it did not impact their power generation capabilities.

HSE, a state-owned entity founded in 2001, is pivotal for Slovenia's energy, operating multiple power plants and mines. HSE which provides about 60% of Slovenia's power, did not suffer disruptions in electricity production

The attack, which started last Wednesday, was contained by Friday with the help of cyber authorities and external experts.

Despite no operational or financial harm reported, and no ransom demand yet, the attack is attributed to the Rhysida group, known for stealing data rather than immediately demanding ransom.

No details are disclosed about the nature of the attack or any data exfiltrated.
