El Corte Inglés, Spain's prominent department store chain, is reporting a security breach resulting in unauthorized access to its customers' personal data.

El Corte Inglés reported that the incident was identified and quickly addressed through the company's detection and security protocols. The company has implemented remedial measures, required the external supplier to establish additional security measures to prevent future incidents and reported the incident to the relevant data protection authorities

According to the company's statement, the security breach occurred through an external provider, compromising several types of customer information:

  • Personal identification data
  • Contact details
  • Card numbers used for purchases at El Corte Inglés

The company has not disclosed the number of affected customers. They claim that the compromised data does not enable third parties to operate or make payments with El Corte Inglés cards. Customers can continue to use their cards safely both in physical stores across Spain and through the company's online platforms (website and mobile application).
