Learn More

Sun Life, a leading Canadian insurance provider, has revealed that some of its U.S. customers have had their personal data compromised as a result of a global cyberattack that targeted one of its vendors in June.

While Sun Life U.S. does not utilize the targeted file transfer software, the vendor, Pension Benefit Information (PBI), reported unauthorized access to certain members' personal information during the incident.

The accessed data includes

  • names,
  • Social Security Numbers,
  • policy and account numbers,
  • dates of birth.

Sun Life claims that no financial or medical information was exposed. It is worth noting that only U.S. customers of Sun Life were impacted by the breach.

The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.

Sun Life is conducting an investigation with PBI, and will notify affected members while providing credit monitoring and identity protection services. The company advises affected individuals to monitor their accounts, change passwords, and consider credit freezes or fraud alerts for added security.
