Trocaire College, a private school in Buffalo, New York, reports a ransomware attack that impacted its network. The college first detected unauthorized activity on March 13, 2025.
The college locked down its systems and hired security experts to investigate and assist in recovery. The investigation concluded that hackers accessed the network and stole files between March 12 and March 13, 2025.
The INC Ransom group claimed the attack on their dark web leak site.The stolen data includes:
- Full names
- Social Security numbers
- Driver’s license or state ID numbers
- Passport numbers
- Financial account information
The hackers stole sensitive data of 23,436 people. The college completed the file review on December 4, 2025. and notified state officials about the breach in January 2026.
Trocaire College started mailing letters to victims on January 16, 2026 and is offering victims 12 months of free identity protection including credit monitoring and a $1 million insurance policy for identity theft.
