United Auto Workers is a labor union based out of Detroit, Michigan and their UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust reported a data breach after discovering that confidential information of union members was exposed in a third-party breach at NationsBenefits, a company utilized by UAW to administer benefits.
The breach resulted in unauthorized access to members' names, Social Security numbers, and protected health information, prompting UAW Benefits Trust to send data breach notification letters to affected individuals.
NationsBenefits learned on February 7, 2023, that one of its vendors, Fortra, LLC, experienced a security incident, which affected certain clients, including UAW members. NationsBenefits conducted a review of the compromised data and identified UAW member information within it.
