Ubisoft, the renowned French video game publisher responsible for titles such as Assassin's Creed, FarCry, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, is currently investigating a possible cyber security breach.
The investigation comes after VX-Underground, a security research group, shared screenshots suggesting unauthorized access to Ubisoft's internal systems. The alleged breach was reported to have occurred around December 20th, with the attackers claiming to have infiltrated systems like Ubisoft's SharePoint server, Microsoft Teams, Confluence, and MongoDB Atlas panel.
The attackers, whose identity remains unknown, initially aimed to extract approximately 900GB of data, including Rainbow 6 Siege user data. It's not clear whether they managed to get that data.
Ubisoft's spokesperson acknowledged the alleged incident but has not shared further details.
