Verisure, a Swedish alarms and security systems manufacturer, is reporting a data breach affecting approximately 35,000 current and former customers of its Alert Alarm brand in Sweden.

The breach was caused by a breach into systems maintained by an unnamed external billing partner used by Verisure. The exposed data includes:

  • Names
  • Addresses
  • Email addresses
  • Social Security numbers

The breach affected approximately 35,000 current and former customers of Alert Alarm, a Verisure brand operating in Sweden. Alert Alarm currently has fewer than 6,000 active customers, so a massive portion of the affected individuals are former customers whose data remained in the billing system.

Shares in the security group, which was listed on the Stockholm stock exchange on October 8, fell 4% following the disclosure.

The company is working with expert advisors to investigate the full scope of the incident and has notified both Swedish police and the relevant regulators.
