WayForward Technologies game studio data leak through discarded hard drive

Take action: Secure wipe of hard drives is tedious and universally hated. Until someone throws out a hard drive full of sensitive data and someone finds out, leaks, sells or abuses the discarded data. Accept the tedious process, it's still much easier than having to do incident cleanup after a data leak.

WayForward Technologies, a game developer known for the Shantae series and other titles such as Lunark and Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, has been hit by a data leak of various game prototypes and source code. The leak appears to have originated from a discarded hard drive, according to a claim by Twitter user Lance McDonald.

WayForward recently announced that fans could pre-order the next game in the Shantae series, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution, on an actual GBA-compatible cartridge until April 7th.

It remains to be seen how the data breach will impact WayForward's plans for future titles and development, including potential delays or compromises to projects.

As of now, WayForward Technologies has not released any official statement regarding the incident.
