York County reports potential data breach of court records

York County officials have issued a warning to residents about a "data privacy event" that may have compromised personal information related to Civil Court records.
According to county officials, they were notified of a possible data security incident in early 2025 involving a third-party vendor. The incident occurred when an employee of this vendor, who had been hired to develop software for York County Civil Courts, was provided with court data for development and testing purposes. When the employee subsequently left the vendor's employment, they failed to return this sensitive data as required.
The county has emphasized that there is currently "no evidence that the former employee misused the data, or shared it with anyone." However, as a precautionary measure, officials are conducting an investigation to determine the scope and impact of the incident.
The compromised data may include various types of sensitive personal information:
- Contact information
- Driver's license or state ID card numbers
- Financial information
- Medical information
- Social Security numbers
County officials are working to identify all individuals whose information may have been included in the data provided to the former employee. The number of potentially affected individuals has not been disclosed.
The county has not specified whether they will be offering credit monitoring or identity theft protection services to affected individuals.
