Acer Philippines report third party data breach

Acer Philippines recently experienced a cybersecurity incident involving a third-party vendor, leading to the exfiltration and free leakage of some of its employee data.

The cyberattack was attributed to a hacker known as 'ph1ns', who claimed responsibility for both the data theft and the wiping of data on the targeted servers. Acer Philippines initiated an investigation to address the security breach.

Apparently, the hacked third-party company manages the Acer employee attendance data. The hacker leaked the stolen data on a hacking forum claiming that it was stolen from the HR department of the Taiwanese company.

The third party wasn't named so far, and no details have been disclosed about the nature of the attack, types of data breached or number of affected individuals.

The company has assured that no customer data was compromised and emphasized that its own systems remained secure throughout the incident.
