MetroWest Community Federal Credit Union was hit by a cyberattack and data breach claimed by the Akira ransomware group.
The investigation confirmed that attackers gained access to internal systems on September 3, 2025, stole files and encrypted data to disrupt operations. On October 25, 2025, the Akira group published the stolen data on their dark web site.
The exposed data inlcudes
- Full names and home addresses
- Phone numbers and Social Security numbers
- Financial account and debit card numbers
- Driver’s license information
- Internal financial and accounting files
- Court-related documents and employee records
- Identification records
A total of 7,638 individuals were affected. The credit union notified the authoritirs and is offering 24 months of free credit monitoring to those impacted.
