Albany County, New York, is investigating a potential cybersecurity breach.

The breach affects the county's online services, preventing the issuance of certificates of residency online. Details regarding the start of the incident, whether it is a ransomware attack, or the involvement of federal law enforcement, remain undisclosed.

During the breach these certificates are requested through a Division of Finance phone number.

The investigation is being conducted with assistance from the state's Division of Homeland Security and the Emergency Services Cyber Incident Response Team. County Executive Daniel McCoy confirmed the situation but noted that, as of now, there is no evidence of data exfiltration.
