Systembolaget, Sweden's state-owned alcohol retailer, is reporting a significant disruption in its supply chain due to a ransomware attack on Skanlog, one of its key logistics partners.
The cyberattack has impacted approximately 15% of Systembolaget's sales volume, affecting the availability of wine and liquor across the country. As a result, customers may experience a reduced selection of alcoholic beverages, and any orders affected by the supply disruption are being canceled.
The ransomware incident, which is attributed to hackers believed to be based in North Korea, was detected on the morning of April 22nd, 2024. The attack led to the shutdown of Skanlog’s systems, including critical components like their Microsoft financial system and an inventory system named Dynaman, essential for their operations. Skanlog has ceased all deliveries following the attack,
Systembolaget is coordinating with other distributors to mitigate the impact and maintain supply as much as possible.
The specifics of how the attackers could have attacked Skanlog have not been disclosed.
