Learn More

Trans-Northern Pipelines Inc., a Canadian oil transmission company operating extensive pipeline networks across Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta, has reportedly fallen victim to a cybersecurity breach attributed to the ALPHV/BlackCat ransomware group.

The hacker group claims to have exfiltrated approximately 190 GB of what it describes as "all important information" from the company. The attack is confirmed by Trans-Northern Pipelines, but the company claims it did not lead to unplanned or unusual interruptions in pipeline operations. The breach occurred in November 2023 and affected a limited number of internal computer systems.

Trans-Northern has stated that their operations continue safely, thanks to rapid containment measures implemented with the help of third-party cybersecurity experts.

Details regarding the extent of data theft, encryption of stolen data, and potential exposure of employee or customer information remain unclear.
