Bartlesville Public Schools report data breach exposing employee and student data

Bartlesville Public School District in Oklahoma is reporting a data breach that compromised personal information of both staff members and students.

The nature of the attack is not disclosed. The attack occurred on April 30, 2025. The investigation concluded by August 4th and confirmed that data was stolen.

The breach exposed different categories of sensitive information depending on the individual affected:

For Staff Members (employed 2007-April 2025):

  • Full names
  • Dates of birth
  • Social Security numbers

For Students (current and former):

  • Full names
  • Contact information
  • Student identification numbers
  • Dates of birth
  • Medical alert information
  • Limited number of individual health plans
  • Limited number of individualized education plans (IEPs)

The number of affected individuals is not disclosed. Given the period of exposed data from 2007 to 2025, plus student information, the number of affected individuals could be in the thousands.

The district started notifying affected individuals by August 27, 2025. Those whose Social Security numbers were accessed in the data breach have been offered complimentary credit monitoring. The district has established a dedicated toll-free line, 800-220-7020, operating from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays, for those with questions or concerns about the data breach.
