Beacon Mutual Insurance Co., reports a ransomware attack that began on January 14, 2026.
The attackers gained access to the internal network and allegedly stole some files. The company disconnected several systems and started a forensic investigation with outside security experts.The insurer brought its operations back online by January 20, 2026. The INC Ransom group claimed the attack and to have stolen 275 GB of data. The hackers claim that compromised data includes:
- Full names and PII of employees and claimants
- Medical records and health information
- Workers’ compensation claims data
- Internal financial statements
- Corporate emails and operational files
The number of affected individuals is not disclosed. Beacon Mutual reported the breach to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and is working with forensic experts to determine the impact of the incident. If the investigation confirms that hackers stole personal information, the insurer plans to notify the affected individuals.
