Bedford County Fire and Rescue has been notified about an incident that may have affected certain patient information that occurred at EMS Management and Consultants, Inc. (EMS|MC) - a third party service.
This incident stemmed from the compromise of MOVEit Transfer tool, a software EMS|MC uses for its billing services. Following this disclosure, EMS|MC patched the tool and initiated recommended security measures. Subsequent analysis by a third-party data analysis firm identified patient information within the compromised data.
Although there is no evidence of information misuse, EMS|MC is taking precautions by providing potentially impacted individuals with steps to safeguard their data. EMS|MC is sending notification letters to affected individuals, containing details such as
- names,
- dates of transport,
- social security numbers,
- birth dates,
- encounter/transport numbers,
- billing codes,
- ambulance transport-related patient information.
The number of affected individuals is not disclosed.
Potentially affected individuals are encouraged to monitor their account statements and explanation of benefits for any suspicious activity to protect against identity theft.
